Black Cat Ivy founder Joan Furlong launched the business in 2008.
“Weeding is more fun than gardening for me!”
she says. “Ridding a tree of English ivy is weeding on a grand scale. I believe I hear each tree giving a sigh of relief!”
Joan trained as a “weed warrior” with
the National Park Service / The Nature Conservancy, and volunteers to remove invasive plant species from Glover Archbold and Rock Creek Parks. She also trained as a volunteer “citizen forester” with the non-profit
foundation Casey Trees, which is working to restore the tree canopy in Washington, DC.
"The problem of invasive plant species is enormous,"
according to Joan. "By focusing on saving the trees first - one at a time, in our yards and in our parks - we can protect our
existing urban forest and stem the spread of one of the worst invasives in the metropolitan region."
Joan's vision of Black Cat Ivy success
is … no repeat customers! Joan
wants customers to be so satisfied that Black Cat Ivy will be referred from one neighbor to the next until English ivy is
removed from ALL trees in the DC metro area!
